Three Knights Teams took to the road this week in the first round of playoffs to see which division they would play in. The Mosquito Team had a bye week and will resume action next weekend.
Tyke
Sunday October 26th saw the start of the Kanata Knights Tykes 'second season' as the NCAAF playoffs got underway at the home of the Cornwall Wildcats. Right from the opening kickoff it was clear the Knights defence had no intention of tarnishing their stellar reputation.. Cornerback Evan Wilson swooped in from his position of outside containment to stop the Wildcat return man in his tracks on his way to a season high 5 tackles. Gavin Goyette ensured that the left corner would provide no escape for Cornwall dropping 6 Wilcats of his own while whipping his team mates into a frenzy. With the corners plugged, the Wildcats tried the middle but only ran into Michael Kraeker and Kyle Morley who pinned 7 Wildcats apiece. At times Wildcat ball carriers found themselves swarmed by 5, 6 ,and 7 Knights finding themselves on the receiving end of a well executed gang tackle. The relentless effort allowed not a single first down from the Wildcat offence. With an abundance of extra playing time provide by the D, the Knights offense spread the ball around, finding the momentum that had eluded them in previous games. Patrick Massia started the ball rolling on one of the first plays of the game, gaining the sideline and scampering 45 yards for his first of two touchdowns on the day. Quarterback Carter Poulin was as busy as ever racking up 106 yards rushing and adding a touchdown of his own. Three additional touchdowns came from Ryan Miskelly, Dylan Lachance and Jordan Porter with Doug Mathieson and Jack Power each adding a successful PAT. Kanata 38. Cornwall 0.
PeeWee
In their first playoff game this season, the peewee Knights scored first, but ended on the losing end of 34-18 game against the North Gloucester Giants. John Ladurantaye scored first on a 12 yard run. Quarterback Nick Krzaniak continued the scoring with a 2 yard quarterback sneak. Near the end of the game, Nick also connected with John Allarie for his first touchdown reception of the year.
The offense fired on all cylinders, and had an exceptional game. The offensive line helped to secure 14 first downs. John Ladurantaye and Paul Lepage led the rushing attack with a total of 171 yards, with Nick Krzaniak and Bradley Hills adding an additional 16 yards. The quarterbacks, Nick Krzaniak and Jason Lachance, passed for 161 yards to their corps of receivers – John Ladurantaye, Tyler Anderson, Bradley Hills, Patrick Guilbault and John Allarie. John Allarie also punted for 89 yards. John Ladurantaye, Paul Lepage, Harrison da Costa and Josh Bourbonniere combined 190 yards in kick off returns.
The defense also had a very active game. Harrison da Costa led the team with 8 tackles, with Evan Swire close behind with 6 tackles, Sebastian Mordack with 5, Vincent Galea with 4, and Stuart McGinn and Carlo Cano with 3 each. Carlo also knocked away a pass. Emil Aite, Spencer Cates, Mitchell Graham, Michael Zadra, Tyler Hutchinson and Nick Porter also added to the tackle totals. Mitchell Graham and Harrison da Costa combined for 42 yards in punt returns.
During the game, the offense outscored all other teams that the Giants have faced this year. The defense held the Giants to one of their lowest scores of the year. With this loss, the peewees move into the B division semifinals.
Bantam
Kanata made a strong showing on Sunday’s game against Cumberland at Millenium field, which was churned to mud by previous games. Defense did an excellent job and stopped Cumberland from scoring in the first half. In the first quarter a pass by Cumberland was blocked by Defensive Tackle Josh Wood and the ball was caught by Defensive Lineman Ryan Dalgity giving the Knights the ball. Later in the half Knights quarterback Dallon Kuprowski ran for spectacular touchdown ending with a forward flip over a Cumberland player into the end zone. Both the Knights offense and defense clearly dominated the game in the first half. Knights defense blocked several passes and our Defensive Back Kyle Wilcox intercepted a long pass by Cumberland again giving us the ball. The half ended with 0 - 6 for the Knights. In the 3rd quarter Cumberland came back with a TD and conversion point early in the quarter bringing the score 7-6 for Cumberland. In the 4th quarter Knights offense advanced the ball to Cumberlands 1 yard line. QB Dallon Kuprowski and the center Kieran McGee punched through Cumberlands defense for a TD. This was followed by a 2 point conversion pass to Knights receiver Matt Gagnon bringing the score to 7 – 14 for the Knights. On kick-off Cumberland managed to evade our defense and scored a TD and conversion point bringing the score to 14 - 14. This was followed a few minutes later by another TD and conversion by Cumberland. Despite steady advances by our offense the clock ran out and the score ended 21 – 14 for Cumberland. The Knights will now advance to the playoffs for the Chorney cup.
