Once again all 4 Kanata Knights Teams were in action this weekend against cross town rivals. The Tyke, Mosquito and PeeWee squads were up against foes from West Carleton, while the Bnatams faced off against the Myers Riders.
Tyke
Fall colours signaled a change of season this past Sunday as the Kanata Knights Tykes ventured into the lair of the West Carleton Wolverines, determined to bring about a change of fortune in their own season. Challenged by their coaches to put more points on the board, the offense stormed the field on their first possession. Dylan LaChance proceeded to bowl over one Wolverine after another racking up a portion of his 79 rushing yards. After the ensuing kickoff, the Kanata defense took to the field and announced it was not in a giving mood, refusing to relinquish a single unchallenged yard as Marco Becerril, Bryce Marshall, Thomas Berry and Connor Bland took turns dropping Wolverine ball carriers. Brady Tran did his part to assure the offense of more playing time with a fumble recovery, but it was the Kanata "Big Two" of Kyle Morley and Zach Smallwood with another huge effort combining for an outstanding 16 tackles and a QB sack. Following this example, Gavin Goyette, Michael Kraeker, Brogran Lavigne, Cesar Becerril, Evan Wilson, Connor Ogilvie and Eithan Hards combined for another 16 takedowns. On an outlet pass from quarterback Carter Poulin, Patrick Massia escaped to the sideline and then only had eyes for the end zone bringing a jubilant Kanata crowd to its feet as he completed the 50 yard reception for 1 of his two touchdowns. Doug Mathieson, Jack Power, Ryan Miskelly, and Jordan Porter combined for another 29 yards rushing. When the final whistle blew, a battle weary, but unrelenting Kanata Tykes squad was rewarded for their perseverance. And the reward was victory! Knights 33. Wolverines 0.
Mosquito
Fifth year veteran, Logan McKenna, led the Knight’s mosquito team to an overtime victory over the West Carleton Wolverines with a punt into the end zone for the go ahead point. McKenna also scored a 2 point conversion and made 21 strong tackles in the 9-8 win. The mosquito defence continues to be outstanding with stellar performances by Tom Kenny with 16 tackles, Kyle King with 15 tackles and Liam Mellor with 8 tackles a QB sack and a fumble recovery. Amar Singh and Timi Amaebi-Okoro each nabbed an interception and fumble recovery. Both Keenan Tanti and Robbie Clement continue to be strong defensive forces.
Paul Caissie put the team on the scoreboard with the only touch down for the Knights this game. Scott Taylor led the rushing with an amazing 66 yards followed by Jake Hamm and Joey McKiernan with 18 and 11 rushing yards respectively. Quarterback, Evan Yourth had several successful passes for first downs and made key tackles on punt returns. Although the offense has not yet found their groove they will be practicing hard this week for the upcoming game against Bel Air Lions on Thanksgiving Monday.
PeeWee
The peewee team now has a two-game winning streak, improving their record to 3-3, thanks to a 12-7 victory over the West Carleton Wolverines. In this exciting game, the Knights scored on two touchdown receptions by Paul Lepage for 25 yards and to Patrick Guilbault for 26 yards.
