Week 5 saw the Bantams and Mosquito Teams play under the lights on Friday night, while the PeeWees and Tykes played in the light mist Saturday morning.
Tykes
The September rains had softened the home field for the Kanata Knights Tykes, but could not dampen their spirit as a very determined squad hosted the league leading Cumberland Panthers on Saturday September 27th. A raucous Knights defense littered the field with Panthers through the first half. Kyle Morley, Zach Smallwood, and Evan Wilson turfed the Panther pivot once apiece and combined for 20 tackles while Cesar Becerril, Connor Ogilvie, and Brogan Lavigne brought down 3 Panthers each and Gavin Goyette, Thomas Berry and Connor Bland combined for another 5 tackles. The Knights offense started to click in this game with Doug Mathieson, Jordan Porter and Ryan Miskelly combining for 31 yards of rushing. Patrick Massia pulled in the air strikes from quarterback Poulin to amass 25 yards of receiving and midway through the third quarter Dylan Lachance sparked the Knights offense ploughing through would-be Panther tacklers for a portion of his 30 yards rushing. Then Carter Poulin brought Knights fans to their feet punching the ball in from the Panther 1 yard line. A huge upset appeared to be in the making with the Knights seizing the momentum and the score tightened to 14-6. To the dismay of the Kanata hopeful, the Kanata touchdown immediately sparked an overpowering display of offense as Cumberland showed the strength that has kept them out of the loss column this season. When the final whistle blew, the scoreboard had silenced the home team. Panthers 44 - Knights 6.
Mosquito
The Knight’s mosquito team played valiantly against the Cumberland Panthers suffering a defeat with all scoring occurred in the final minutes of a hard fought battle.
The offense exploded into action late in the game led by rookie quarterback, Jake Hamm who threw pass after pass allowing receivers Paul Caissie and Joey McKiernan to move the ball for several first downs towards the end zone. Unfortunately the time ran out allowing the Panthers a 6-2 win. Evan Yourth, Scott Taylor, Grant Murison had stellar performances on offense.
Defense ruled the field forcefully holding off the drives of the opposition. The linebacker crew of Mellor, McKenna and King led the tackling. Timi Amaebi-Okoro had a fumble recovery and Keenan Tanti a quarterback sack. Robbie Clement continues to make crucial tackles and Tom Kenny took down a Panther on his way to the end zone. Logan McKenna stepped in as punter for an injured team mate accumulating 105 yards on 4 punts.
Mosquito players and coaching staff extend a big thank you to the cheerleading squad for their continual support and motivation on game day!!

Bantam
As expected the Orleans Bengals proved to be strongest challenger so far this year for the Knights. The Knights depth on offence with lots of long and short passing plays and running plays was matched by Orleans strong blocking and running play. The game was a cliff hanger right up to the end. Even the referees commented that it was the best and closest one they had seen for some time.
The game started off with a Touchdown in the first quarter by Kanata Quarterback in the first 5 minutes of play, followed by a successful conversion kick bringing the score to 7-0 for the Knights.
The Orleans Bengals had a strong offensive running play steadily advancing the ball down the centre or around the ends and minutes later tied the game. Later in the quarter they repeated their success and pulled ahead with a touchdown by their running back bringing the score to 7-14 for the Bengals.
In the last minute of the quarter Knights running back Mike Leno scored a touchdown followed by a convert bringing the score to 14-14.
Five minutes into the second quarter Knights QB Dallon Kuprowki scored a touchdown. This was followed by a successful pass across the end zone bringing the score 22-14 Knights. In the second quarter the Knights defence made several adjustments to Cornwall’s running play and managed to arrest several attempts by Cornwall to move the ball forward.
The third quarter again saw several attempts by Orleans to and move the ball downfield. Our defense did a valiant job holding them off but Orleans managed to score one touchdown with conversion point bringing the score to a close 22-21 for the Knights.
In the fourth quarter Orleans scored again by their strong blocking and running play in the last 5 minutes of the game. This time Knights defense successfully blocked the kick. The Knights later made a successful long pass bringing the ball to the Orleans 25 yard line in the remaining seconds of play. Knights made a valiant “Hail Mary” attempt at a pass, but was unable to find an open receiver. The game ended with a score of 22-28 Bengals. |
