All four Kanata Knights Teams looked to improve their records this weekend, with the Tykes, Mosquitos and PeeWees playing host to the Myers Riders, while the Bantams travelled to West Carelton to take on the Wolverines.
Tyke
The Kanata Knights Tykes suited up for the 3rd game of their regular season looking to spoil the win streak of the undefeated Myers Riders. The Knights stormed out of the gate holding the Riders to a 12-6 lead into the 3rd quarter, thanks to 61 yards of rushing and a touchdown from Jake Lavigne. Jordan Porter contributed 11 yards of rushing and Cesar Becerril was good for an additional 5 yards. The defence continued their strong play with a QB sack apiece for Kyle Morley and Zach Smallwood. Smallwood also came up with a fumble recovery while Patrick Massia intercepted a Myers pass attempt and was good for two tackles and Brogan Lavigne introduced 4 Riders to a KRC turf softened by the remnants of Hurricane Ike. Midway through the 3rd quarter however, the suffocating humidity appeared to zap the energy of the Knights allowing the Riders to take control of the game on their way to a 26-6 victory.
Mosquito
The Knight’s mosquito team suffered their first loss of the season to the Myers Riders. The Knight’s offence struggled though out the game to move the ball forward. Rushing was led by Scott Taylor with an accumulation of 30 yards. Jake Hamm showed grit and determination playing both sides of the ball due to injury and illness of fellow teammates. Despite the loss Robbie Clement had a stellar day on defense with numerous solo tackles robbing the Riders touch down opportunities. The team will be training hard this week in preparation to face the North Gloucester Giants next weekend.
PeeWee
The exciting Peewee season continued, with Myers Riders visiting our Knights. Although this was an excellent game, the Knights came up short, losing 28-19.
Special teams were the story. Carlo Cano scored a touchdown on a 73 yard punt return. Tyler Anderson scored another touchdown on a punt fumbled by Myers in their end zone. Tyler was also on the receiving end of a 55 yard touchdown pass from Nick Krzaniak. Bradley Hills kicked for a point after a touchdown. The Knights led for most of the game, but lost in the fourth quarter.
This was another outstanding defensive performance led by Mitchell Graham with 13 tackles, a forced fumble and a 16 yard interception return. Evan Swire had 7 tackles and a 1 yard punt return. Harrison daCosta, Joey Bélanger, and Emil Aite each had 4 tackles. Also with tackles were Zach Andruchow, Michael Zadra, Sebastian Mordak, Jordan Gorgichuk, Carlo Cane, Nick Porter, and Tyler Hutchinson. Michael Zadra, Jordan Gorgichuk and Curtis Wagner each knocked down a pass. Michael also had a quarterback sack. Sebastian Mordak had a 14 yard interception return. Stuart McGinn also recovered a fumble, running for 2 yards.
On offence, Nick Krzaniak passed for 86 yards. John Ladurantaye and Bradley Hills combined for 66 rushing yards, 31 receiving yards and 4 tackles. Paul Lepage added to the offense with two rushing yards and 17 yards in kickoff returns. John Allarie punted and kicked for a total of 277 yards, and even a 6 yard kickoff return.
This was yet another stellar performance by the Knights.
Bantam
The game started out with Kanata coming out and throwing the ball down the field on there first drive. Mark Brown made 2 great catches on the first drive for the initial touchdown. West Carleton hung in tough in the first quarter and scored to tie the game up. West Carleton's running backs ran hard in the first half. It was a back and forth game in the first half with both offences having some success moving the ball. The game was tied 14-14 late in the second quarter when the Kanata defence made a huge play. Connor Dacosta intercepted a pass and ran for a touchdown at the end of the first half.
In the second half the Kanata defence adjusted to shut down the inside run by West Carleton. The Kanata offence had a lot of success in the second half running the ball in the bad weather conditions. Mike Lenno had near 150 yards rushing and Travis Troughton had 50 yards running. Dallon Kaprowski had a lot of runs to the outside to keep the West Carleton defence off balance
The Knights really took over the game in the second half
