PeeWee

Early on, this promised to be an exciting season for the Knights Peewee football team.  The team continued that excitement through to the championship game, beating the Orleans Bengals 19-6.

Once again, the offensive line broke open several holes, allowing Paul Lepage to rush for a touchdown.  The line also gave quarterback Nick Krzaniak ample time to pass for one touchdown each to Patrick Guilbeault and John Ladurantaye.  John Allarie added a single point by punting the ball into the endzone that could not be returned.

The offense had 10 first downs during the game.  Paul Lepage, John Ladurantaye, and Bradley Hills combined for 225 rushing yards.  Nick Krzaniak had 39 passing yards to John Ladurantaye and Patrick Guilbeault.  Patrick and Mike Langlois helped out their team frequently with some great and timely tackling.  Josh Bourbonniere had 17 yards in kick returns and John Allarie punted for a total of 107 yards.

The defense applied pressure throughout the game.  Michael Zadra, Mitchell Graham and Joey Belanger forced several throws from the Bengal quarterback.  The defensive line also blocked a Bengal punt, providing the Knights with excellent field position.  Mitchell Graham led the defensive attack with 13 tackles and a quarterback sack.  Evan Swire had 12 tackles.  Sebastian Mordak added 6 tackles.  Harrison da Costa had 4 tackles, while Michael Zadra had three tackles and a quarterback sack.  Both Joey Belanger and Spencer Cates added 3 tackles each.  Carlo Cano, Vincent Galea, Emil Aite, Jordan Gorgichuk, Jake Saunders, and Curtis Wagner all added tackles to the team’s overall statistics.  Curtis also had an interception during the game.  Nick Porter blocked a pass.  Mitchell Graham and Carlo Cano combined for 15 yards in punt returns.  Mitchell also had 77 yards in kick offs.

This team saved the best for last.  For their performances during the game, Lake Johnston won the Lineman of the Game award and Paul Lepage was the game’s Most Valuable Player.  Most importantly, congratulations to the Kanata Knights Peewee football team - the 2008 Chorney Cup winners.

Bantam

Saturday evening brought good weather for the final game at Minto field for the Chorney cup game between the Knights Bantam team gainst the Orleans Bengals. Orleans provided a challenge for Kanata with a strong offensive running play and a strong defense.

Orleans scored the first TD of the game with 4 minutes remaining in the 1st quarter. The convert kick was blocked by Knights defense. The second quarter saw a spectacular 75 run for a TD by Knights QB Dallon Kuproski evading the Orleans defense. With convert kick by Konah Raynes this put the Knights in the lead 7-6.  With 1 minute to go in the half Orleans scored another TD. Again the Knights did a great job blocking the kick. The half ended with a score 7-12 for Bengals. The third quarter saw no TDs in spite of several long offensive drives up field by Knights running backs Mike Leno and Travis Troughton and pass completions by receivers Matt Gagnon, Travis Brown, Zach Cranney and Marc Brown. Knights O-line, Hunter Bisschops, Dan Bowne, Ryan Doull, Kieran McGee, Brett Nicholson and Mitchell Slack worked hard to push back Bengals defense. Knights defense did an awesome job of blocking strong offensive plays by Bengals, with strong push by D-linemen John Vincent, Josh Wood, Jeremy Houle, Ryan Dalgity and Sam Cleary,   linebackers Connor DaCosta, Tyrone Afram, and Phil Houle and defensive backs Sean Colby, Roger Collins, Kyle Wilcox, Konah Raynes and Matt Shulstad.

A punt by Orleans deep into the Knights end zone ended up with Knights taking a knee and conceding a point to the Bengals. In the 4th quarter the Bengals scored another TD with 7 minutes remaining in the game. Again the convert was blocked by the Knights. The Knights offense was unable to score during the remainder of the game and the game ended 7-19 for the Bengals.
