All five Kanata Knights football teams played their last games of the regular season on October 22, 2006 with the four lower levels taking on the South Gloucester Raiders and the Midgets meeting the Dukes.

Tyke

The Kanata Knights Tykes suffered a 34-6 defeat in their last game of the season at the hands of the South Gloucester Raiders.

Offensive linemen Johnny Milks, Andy Carmichael, Andrew Caicco and Sean Emond did a great job stopping the defense but were only able to come up with a single touch down scored by QB Sam Kronick who led the offense racking up 103 rushing yards.  Scott Taylor, Levi Neeson and Mahlon Head were also key players on the Knights offense.

The defense struggled to hold off the Raiders offense through out the game.  Kyle King, Carter Poulin, Jordon Olleik, Robbie Clement, Devin Saumur, Grant Moser, Kyle Morley, Connor Smallwood and Logan McKenna combined for 32 tackles.  Evan Yourth had a fumble recovery and McKenna had 45 yards on 2 kick off returns.

Mosquito

Another big win for the Mosquitos!  They pulled off a 23-0 win against the South Gloucester Raiders this week, thanks to the teamwork and effort made by all.  John Ladurantaye had a spectacular 150 yards rushing, and scored 2 of the 3 touchdowns, the third one scored by Spencer Cates from the defence.  Seb Mordak and Cassy Aite combined for another 42 yards rushing, and Cassy also had 47 yards receiving.  Nick Krzaniak and Jason Lachance passed the ball for 47 and 20 yards respectively, resulting in some great catches!  Thanks go the O line for the push and protection, and all the offence for great effort blocking.

The defence was able to hold the Raiders to a scoreless game due to the many tackles and hits shared by Chase Renaud, Harrison de Costa, Eric Oneschuk, Vince Galea, David Nguyen, Sebastian Rios, Devon McIntyre, Ben Tremblay, Brett Champagne, and Jordan Gorgichuk.  Curtis Wagner also aided the cause with an interception.  Spencer Cates, Zach Palmer, Emil Aite, Zach Andruchow had 3 tackles each.  Evan Swire made 4 more tackles and Mike Zadra made 5.  Mitch Graham played a solid game finishing with 10 tackles and 1 sack to his credit.

Pee Wee

It was not a banner day for the Pee Wee team coming out on the losing end of a 44-6 decision. The Raiders had a very strong outside running game that along with the inclement weather proved to be too much for the over worked defence led by Connor Da Costa, Dean Edwards, and Tyrone Afram.

Although the Pee Wees came out strong on their first play with a 90 yard TD run by Dallon Kuprowski, it would be the only Knights points scored in the game. Along with Kuprowski, Nick Ziai had good runs for Kanata, as did Ian Boyle and Matt Oneschuk. QBs Sam Lawrence and David MacLeod had a hard day as throwing became increasingly difficult as the game went

Bantam

With the temperature hovering around 0ºC feeling more like -10ºC the Knights would face a worthy challenger in the Gloucester South Raiders for their last regular season game of 2006.

Joey Timpson led the Knights defense with 13 tackles and 1 sac. Shane Sabourin, Brad Gorgichuk, Marc Lefleur and Connor Williams combined for multiple tackles as once again this defensive core stood tall in creating field position.

Ryan Ireland started things off for Kanata in the second quarter connecting with Jordan Singbeil for a 20 yard touchdown pass. Taylor Kuprowski picked up 105 yards while Eric Champagne, Paul Bekolay and Shane Hills each contributed with 20 plus yards on the day.

Despite numerous Knights opportunities throughout the game it was the GS Raiders defense who would take center stage and leave with a 13 – 9 victory over the Knights.

Midget

The Midgets won their last game of the season beating the Dukes 14-7.   The Knights two touchdowns were scored by Bill Fletcher on a 14 yard pass reception from QB Shane Nolan and Justin Patenaude netted eight more points on a 3 yard run up the middle and two converts.  Patenaude who ended the regular season as the league’s leading rusher had 201 yards on the day including a spectacular 66 yard run on a botched snap.

Matthew Scott led the defense with one fumble recovery, a quarterback sack and several tackles followed by Nick White, Nicholas Konan and Nathan Quigley.   The win helped the Midgets secure second place and home field advantage when they take on the Bel Air Norseman in the semi finals next weekend.

Next Action

Playoffs also begin next weekend for the other Knight’s teams as all squads advance to the post season rounds in their respective divisions.   The Tykes will play the Canterbury Mustangs followed by the Pee Wees who will play the Generals and the Bantams will play the Gloucester Giants.  The Mosquito berth will be decided later in the week following a mini game tie breaker against the Orleans Bengals.    Times and dates have yet to be determined but will be posted on the Knights website (www.kanataknightsfootball.com) later in the week.
