Midget Knights Remain Undefeated
|

|
The Kanata Knights
Midget squad remained undefeated and in first place
after a victory against the Dukes this past weekend.
The remaining Kanata teams did not fair as well as the
Myers Riders swept the Knights at four levels.
Midget
The Kanata Knights Midgets fought off a fourth quarter
charge and came away with a 21 – 10 victory over the
Dukes on September 29 in Cumberland. With the victory
Knights move to 6 and 0 on the season and remain in
first place in the NCAFA Midget Division, 2 points ahead
of the Nepean Redskins.
The Knights started off strong and built up a 14 – 0
first half lead on the strength of TDs from Justin “Pinball”
Patenaude and speedy Shane Nolan. The Dukes made it
close in the second half coming within 4 points of the
Knights before Patenaude exploded for his second TD
of the game on an electrifying 64 yard run to pay dirt
with less than 3 minutes remaining. Both Patenaude and
Nolan had a great evening rushing, combining for in
excess of 300 yards. Marcus Lovell was QB Mark Packard’s
favorite receiver snagging 3 passes for 54 yards.
The defense continued to play stingy despite missing
several starters due to injury. Rookies Mark Dion and
Michael Saikali had fine outings as did Bill Fletcher
who demonstrated his versatility by playing both ways
and picking off a Duke pass. Leading tacklers were Michael
Jacobs, Nathan Quigley and Matt Scott while John Kirkpatrick,
Shane Nolan, Karim Hosny and Michael Jacobs all had
fumble recoveries.
Bantam
When you're the defending city champs and everyone's
gunning for you, there are no easy games. The Bantam
Knights learned this the hard way, winding up on the
losing end of a 14-7 score to a scrappy, motivated Myers
Riders squad on a muddy, wet KRC Field on October 1.
With the loss, the Knights slip into second place in
the NCAFA Bantam Division, two points behind the undefeated
Cumberland Panthers.
Things started off well enough for Kanata with an early
touchdown but Myers came back with two unanswered majors,
one in the last minute of the game, for the "W".
Connor Williams led the defense with six tackles, a
quarterback sack and constant pressure. Brock
Thompson also had a strong game chipping in with an
interception and batted ball to keep it close.
The "Hogs" on the offensive line made the best they
could of a slick field, controlling the better part
of play between the tackles. Hats off to the always
game "O" Line; Jamie Kadikoff, Brendan Pidgeon, David
Leibovitch, Sean Morley, Shaw Ziai, Chris Cybulski and
the injured Case de Kemp.
PeeWee
The PeeWee Knights stayed close with the Myers PeeWees
for the first half but ran of steam in the second half
to lose a 33 – 0 decision to the second place Riders.
Mosquito
In Mosquito action, the Knights showed off their extensive
defensive skills, unfortunately it wasn’t to be the
Knights day as they lost 26-0 to the Myers Mosquitos.
The scoreboard only tells part of the story. The Knights
held back several offensive threats, stopping the Riders
on numerous occasions from scoring touchdowns and field
goals. Mitch Graham led the team with 16 tackles,
one blocked kick and a fumble recovery. Mike Zadra
also had a fumble recovery, combined with a sack and
8 tackles. Evan Swire, Sebastian Rios, Vincent
Galea, Chase Renaud and Emil Aite combined for 25 tackles
and several QB sacks. Also joining the hit parade
were Brett Champagne, Eric Oneschuk, Zack Palmer (who
also had a batted ball), Jordon Gorgichuk, Devin McIntyre,
David Nguyen, and Zack Andruchow.
On offence, Nick Krzaniak led with 43 rushing yards
while John Ladurantaye rushed for 35. Cassy Aite
played a key role on special teams a 40 yard punt as
well as a 40 yard kick off return.
Tyke
The Kanata Knights tykes suffered numerous injuries
in a crushing 36 – 12 defeat at the hands of the Myers
tykes in the pouring autumn rain. The offense, stifled
as much by the conditions on the field as by the Riders,
never quit and showed true grit with Sam Kronick leading
the charge as he racked up 66 passing yards including
an amazing toss as he was being dragged to the ground
and 37 rushing yards. Levi Neeson continues to be an
offensive threat in the Knight’s arsenal with 44 yards
receiving and 5 yards rushing. The ever present Mahlon
Head scored a TD and had 12 receiving yards and 8 rushing
yards. Scott Taylor demonstrated his scoring touch by
running in 1 TD and tallying 13 rushing yards.
The defense showed no fear in the face of the largest
offense they have seen so far this year. They fought
valiantly and delivered numerous thundering tackles
in their efforts to contain their cross-town rivals.
Kyle King pounded the Riders with 13 tackles while Robbie
Clement refused to be intimidated and handed the Riders
11 bone crushing tackles. Other defensive leaders were
Evan Yourth with 11 tackles, Logan McKenna 9 tackles
and 1 QB sack and Grant Moser 7 tackles. The remainder
of the defense including Carter Poulin, Devin Saumur,
Connor Smallwood, Kyle Morley, Dylan Lachance, Jordan
Oleik, Connor Bland, Brendan Singleton and Andrew Clark
combined for over 30 tackles and several QB sacks.
Next Action
All five Knights teams next see action on Thanksgiving
Monday at the Sportsplex Field in Nepean. Games begin
at 9:30 am.
