Kanata Knights Tykes, Bantams and Midget Remain In First Place

The Kanata Knights Football Club maintained its first place status in three of its five divisions beating the Bell Warriors at Tyke and Bantam and the Nepean Redskins at the Midget level at KRC Field this past Sunday.

Tyke

In their toughest battle yet, the Tykes jousted for defensive superiority over the Bell Warriors…and won 14-8. Sam Kronick put in a remarkable performance as he opened up the scoring with a touchdown in the first quarter; the veteran workhorse also had 55 rushing yards. Levi Neeson and Jake Mamn combined for over 70 yards in kick off returns, rushing and a pass reception.  Mahlon Head led the rushing with 93 yards and the game winning TD followed by a 2-point conversion by Evan Yourth, the first on the year.  The coaching staff was impressed with their entire offensive team including Adam Milito and Nick Moffat at tight end, Damian Marier, Zach Smallwood,  Johnny Milks and Hunter Perrier on offensive tackle, as well as Andy Carmicheal, Andrew Caicco and Amar Singh who guarded the line.

Robbie Clement had the game saving tackle as he broke the sound barrier chasing down the Warrior player nearly 60 yards to take the legs out from under him on the 6 yard line preventing what everyone believed was a sure touchdown, he also delivered 11 crushing  tackles. Logan McKenna delivered 13 tackles including numerous QB sacks.  Kyle King and Kyle Morely punished the Warriors with10 tackles each. Carter Poulin pounded the opposition with 5 tackles. Brendan Singleton, Jordon Olleik, Grant Moser, Connor Smallwood dished out 4 devastating tackles each.  Dylan Lachance, Devin Saumur, Tyler Moffat, Andrew Clarke, Sean Emond and Connor Bland all contributed thunderous tackles as the Knights rained down an unprecedented 80 hard hitting tackles in today’s game. The coaching staff did a great job keeping the team focused and not allowing them to quit when the going got tough.

Mosquito

The Mosquitos played a solid first half holding the Bell Warriors to only 8 points.  Although the score at the end of the first half was 8 to 6 for the Warriors, Bell pulled away in the fourth quarter by scoring 3 touchdowns to win 32 to 8.

Spencer Cates and Evan Swire led the team on defence with 5 tackles each, with Evan also delivering a sack and an interception.  Mitch Graham also played well with 3 tackles, 1 sack, 1 blocked kick and one batted ball.  Brett Champagne,  Curtis Wagner, Eric Oneschuk, Zack Palmer, Devin McIntyre, Sebastian Rios, Mike Zadra, Zack Andruchow, Harrison de Costa also had several tackles each. Brett and Sebastian Rios added an interception each and Vince Galea had a fumble recovery.  Curtis Wagner punted an average of 20 yards.

Nick Porter scored the Knights only points of the game, with a 13 yard reception from Nick Krzaniak, who also passed for 97 yards.  Two of these passes were completed to James Wilson for 85 yards.  John Ladurantaye led the running game with 47 yards rushing, with Cassy Aite running for 25 yards.  John also had 52 yards from kick off returns and had several big blocks.

PeeWee

Week 3 found the Knights PeeWees in a very physical, hard hitting game against the Bell Warriors coming out with a hard fought 19-0 loss.  The Knights defence was very strong allowing only 2 touchdowns while a 3rd was scored by Bell on a punt return.  Kanata Knights defence was led by linebacker Dean Edwards and defensive back Sean Colby with 6 tackles each.  Cody Henry had 5 and Tyrone Afram had 4.  They were unable to get any quarterback sacks but had constant pressure on the Bell Warriors quarterback.

Dallon Kuprowski had 75 yards on 4 punt returns, while David Murawski had 13 yards on 1 punt return and Connor DaCosta had 6 yards on 1 punt return.  Ian Boyle had an 11 yard run on a fake punt.  The offence struggled under relentless pressure from Bell's blitzing defence but had several good plays by Brandon Lavery, Ian Boyle and Matt Oneschuk.  The offensive line, depleted by injuries and several missing players fought hard the entire game.

Bantam

The Bantams continued their winning ways by shutting out the game to the Bell Warriors 32 to 0.

The defence consistently came up big by stuffing the Warrior offence and forcing 4 turnovers.  Jeff O'Hearn led the way with two highlight interception returns.  Connor Williams, Brad Gorgichuk and Shane Sabourin led the hit parade with a combined 10 solo tackles, 3 sacks and 2 fumble recoveries.

The offence eventually clicked after, "Mr. Versatility" Godwin Addai started the scoring with a 32 yard field goal.  Godwin did everything but work the canteen by converting all of Taylor Kuprowski, Ryan Ireland, Eric Champagne and Jordan Singbeil majors and scoring a single.

Special mention to the "O" and "D" lines that got stronger as the game wore on and controlled the line of scrimmage.

Midget

It was a battling defensive duo that saw the Knights come out on the winning end of a low scoring 3-2 decision against their cross town rivals, the Nepean Redskins.   Each team came out firing on all pistons in an attempt to retain sole possession of first place in the league.

On the notion that it is the defensive game that will win championships, both teams came on strong against each other’s offence allowing very few yards in the air and very few on the ground.  The only points scored in the game came on opportunities capitalized on defensive turnovers.   The points for the Knights came in the first quarter which was all they needed for the win.  Justin Patenaude who led again in rushing with 75 yards was able to score a 28 yard field goal after defensive star Karim Hosny stripped the ball with Nathan Quigley pouncing on it to put the Knights in great field position.

It was a defensive battle in the second half with movement on the ball coming only on penalties.    While the Redskins came close in going ahead in the game, they could not get by the Knights outstanding defensive squad that repeatedly shut the running game up the middle.  The only points acquired by the Redskins were given by the Knights offence with a 2 point safety to eliminate any possibility of a Redskin win.  The “TSN” plays of the week were credited to Shane Nolan who picked up two interceptions late in the game to help the Knights secure the win.

Other notable mention has to go to the entire defence including Matt Renaud, Matt Scott, Nicholas Konan, Michael Jacobs and Corey Armstrong.
