The Kanata Knights won 3 of 5 games this past weekend.
The Tykes, Bantams and Midgets remained undefeated with
victories over the West Carleton Wolverines and the
Colts. The Mosquitos and PeeWees lost close match ups
to the Wolverines.
Tyke
The Kanata Knights tykes triumphed over the West
Carleton Tykes 19 – 13 on Labour Day afternoon despite
missing a key player and having two touchdowns called
back. The Knight’s offence got the crowd on their feet
early as a determined Levi Neeson broke a tackle and
dashed 50 yards to the end zone with interference support
from a speeding Amar Singh. Strong performances were
turned in by Rookie Mahlon who racked up 103 rushing
yards and 23 yards in kick off returns while Logan McKenna
contributed 130 yards in kickoffs, rushed for 46 yards
and scored 2 TDs. The Offensive line showed grit and
determination as they plowed holes through the Wolverine’s
defence to allow the scoring.
The Knight’s defence once again proved they are a
force to be reckoned with as they held the Wolverines
to just one TD. Veterans Robbie Clement and Connor Smallwood
along with rookie Scott Taylor delivered 7 bone shaking
tackles each, while Kyle Morley and Kyle King rattled
the Wolverines with 6 tackles a piece. Carter Poulin,
Jordan Olleik, Devin Saumur, Grant Moser punished their
opposition’s offence with 5 tackles each. Connor
Bland demonstrated with 4 tackles that like TNT he may
be small but he’s powerful. Every defensive player
made the stat sheet including Brendan Singleton, Dylan
Lachance, Andrew Clarke, Tyler Moffat and Sean Emond
who combined for a dozen bone crushing hits.
Mosquito
The NCAFA Mosquito Game of the Week became a defensive
battle with the Knights losing 6-0 to the West Carleton
Mosquitos. The Knights defence was in great shape shutting
down the Wolverine strong passing game with solid protection
and pressure. Free safety Brett Champagne had an interception
and 15 yard return. The Wolverines were denied 3 separate
times on the goal line by the Knights team tackling.
Mitch Graham led in tackles with 12 for the game.
The Offense ran up against a tough West Carleton
defence but never gave up all day. The offense came
close to scoring with a first and goal series set up
by 50 yard punt return by Cassy Aite. Cam MacMillan
had a nice 18 yard reception and John Ladurantaye led
in rushing with 36 yards.
PeeWee
The PeeWee Knights fought a tough match to the Wolverine
PeeWees but ended up on the short end of a 13 – 0 score.
A strong running game allowed the Wolverines to control
the ball and the clock for several long drives. The
Knights defence fought hard all game long and was led
in tackles by Dominic Heallis, Dallon Kuprowski and
Dean Edwards with four each. Heallis and Edwards each
had a fumble recovery as did Kyle Wilcox on special
teams. Tyrone Afram and Edwards had one quarterback
sack apiece.
The offence struggled with inconsistent play. The
running game could not sustain any long drives while
several untimely penalties nullified positive gains
especially in the second half. Quarterback Samantha
Lawrence completed six of eighteen passes for 137 yards
all to wide receiver Eric Poulin. The Knights finished
the game with some spirited play in the fourth quarter
and will need much more of the same this coming week.
Bantam
The Bantams continued their winning streak with a
commanding 34 -6 victory over the West Carleton Bantams.
The offense lead by QB Ryan Ireland broke through the
Wolverine defence passing for a total of 239 yards.
Receiving touchdowns were scored by Jordan Singbeil
with 2 and Shane Hills. The Knights running game picked
up steam with Taylor Kuprowski rushing for 70 yards
and 2 touchdowns, while Godwin Addai added 3 converts.
The Knights defence was tough to beat as they pounded
the Wolverine offence. Brad Gorgichuk lead the defence
with 11 tackles and Shane Sabourin recorded 7 and a
sack. David Watts and Ben Shayanpour recorded 6 tackles
respectively while Joey Timpson and Steve Love created
chaos in the back field with a sack each.
Midget
The Knights Midget squad capped off one of their
highest scoring wins in its history easily defeating
the Colts 41-7. Rookie QB Mark Packard played
with poise and confidence passing for 210 yards including
four in the end zone to give his team the win. Capitalizing
on two defensive interceptions by Moe Njau and Shane
Nolan, the Knights scored three times in the first half
with a spectacular TD pass reception by Bill Fletcher
and two catches by Markus Lovell.
Although the Colts managed to score late in the third
quarter, the Knights defence proved to be too powerful
to be able to gain any additional offence. The Knights
were at their best in the fourth quarter with two turnovers
including a defensive touch down by Corey Armstrong,
an 11 yard touchdown run by Justin Patenaude and a 32
yard touchdown pass reception by Markus Lovell.
Justin Patenaude was the leading rusher with 160
yards and 11 points followed by Markus Lovell and Kyle
Fletcher who combined for 210 yards in pass receptions
for 24 points. Nick White was a defensive star
recording his first career interception followed by
the leading tacklers of James Campbell, Matt Renaud,
Karim Hosny, Nathan Quigley, and Michael Jacobs.

Sunday, September 10 at the Kanata Recreation Centre

to Bantam, levels and the Midgets host the Redskins.
