The Kanata Knights Football Club concluded its exhibition season with two wins and two loses against the West Carleton Wolverines on  Sunday, August 20 on a wet, soggy Kanata Recreation Centre Field.

Tyke

The Kanata Knights Tykes served notice that their home field is their House as they charged over the West Carleton Tykes 39 - 6 despite suffering numerous injuries.  Even the relentless rain could not deter the Knights from their quest for victory as Logan (the Lion Heart) McKenna, who played on both offence and defense, lead the team with 2 touch downs, 2 fumble recoveries, 2 QB sacks, 30 yards in kick-offs, 55 rushing yards and 10 tackles. Rookie Mahlon Head decided the end zone was his house as he scored an amazing 3 touch downs behind the strong blocking of the O-Line lead by centre Jake Hamm. Sam Kronick and Levi Neeson also had good games picking up impressive yardage along the ground.

On defense, Robbie Clement put in a spectacular performance delivering 4 tackles, 1 fumble recovery and a touch down. The defensive line put on a fumble recovery clinic as Scott Taylor, in his 1st game, led the tutelage with 4 fumble recoveries and 3 tackles and Carter Poulin delivered 5 punishing tackles and had 2 fumble recoveries. Other strong showings were recorded by Dylan Lachance and Connor Smallwood who had 3 tackles each while Jordan Olleik, Tyler Moffat,  Brendan Singleton and Grant Moser combined for 7 hits.

Mosquito

The Kanata Mosquito's put in a determined effort but in the end lost by a score of  24 – 0 to a much improved West Carleton Mosquito team. The offense took advantage of the exhibition series to continue to work on their game and prepare for the regular season. The coaches were pleased with the effort of all players and look to working on timing and play execution this coming week in preparation for the league opener.

The defense, after an uneven 1st quarter, settled down and executed their game plan to perfection, putting pressure on the Wolverines backfield. Mitch Graham and Harrison de Costa lead the way with 9 tackles each while Graham also added 3 sacks and 2 fumble recoveries. Zach Palmer, Mike Zadra, Bret Champagne and Evan Swire followed with 7 tackles apiece and Devin McIntyre, Jordon Gorgichuk, Vince Galea, and Zack Andruchow contributed 3 tackles each. Swire added one fumble recovery.

PeeWee

The PeeWee squad continues to improve but dropped a close 15 – 6 decision to the Wolverine Pee Wees. The two teams were evenly matched throughout the game and the final tally wasn’t certain until the final moments of the game. Dallon Kuprowski led the way for the Knights with close to 100 yards rushing and scored the lone touchdown.

Bantam

The Bantam Knights recorded their second win in the exhibition season with a 26 – 0 victory over the Bantam Wolverines. The offense was slow in starting but turned it on in the second half in producing an overall balanced attack of 177 yards along the ground and 143 yards through the air. The offensive line “Hoggies” opened big holes all afternoon for running backs Godwin Addai, Eric Champagne and Ryan Graham. Receivers Jordan Singbeil, Shane Hills and Kyle Lafond were favorite targets of QB Ryan Ireland who scored one of the Knights TDs. Graham scored the other Knights offensive TD while Addai had one field goal and two point after converts.

The defense was again unbeatable in recording the shutout. Shane Sabourin led the charge with 11 tackles and a sack followed closely by Brad Gorgichuk with 7 tackles and 2 sacks. Joey Timpson was tough to beat in the middle recording 6 hard hitting tackles and a sack. Kyle Watson added to score board with a 40 punt return for TD.

All Knights teams begin the regular football season on August 26 and 27 with games against the Bel Air Lions and Norseman.
