Knights Dominate At Four Levels

The Kanata Knights Football Club opened its regular season on this road this past weekend winning four out of its five games against the Bel-Air Norseman. 

Tyke

The Kanata Knights Tykes extended their pre – season winning streak into the regular season by defeating the Bel-Air Lions 19 – 6 on their home field in what was an entertaining season opener for the Knights fans. Levi Neeson led the offensive charge in the Lion hunt with 81 yards rushing, 30 yards receiving including a spectacular reception of more than 20 yards in triple coverage, and 2 TDs. Mahlon Head continued his winning ways with 37 rushing yards and 1 TD, while Sam Kronick added his touch to the scoring with 16 rushing yards and a 5 yard conversion. Evan Yourth proved to be more offence than the Lions could handle providing a 20 yard Kick off return, 90 yards total kick off with just 4 kicks a 15 yard punt and 18 yards rushing. The Offensive Line, Zachary Smallwood, Amar Singh, Jake Hamm, Damian Marier, Hunter Perrier, Kyle King, John Milks, Nick Moffat, Andrew Caicco rattled the Lions defence powering their way through play after play allowing the Knights to score the 3 TDs and 1 conversion.

The defensive line of Connor Bland, Jordan Olleik, Andrew Clarke, Brendan Singleton, Dylan Lachance, Sean Emond, Connor Smallwood and Robbie Clement pounded the Lions offence into submission allowing only 1 TD. The veterans Logan McKenna and Connor Smallwood each delivered 12 bone jarring tackles while Scott Taylor and Devin Saumur proved to be more nimble than the cats pouncing on 1 fumble each and delivering 10 and 7 devastating tackles respectively. Not to be outdone Carter Poulin and Kyle Morley, veterans as well, pounded the felines with 6 tackles a piece. The Lion’s punishment continued with 8 bone crunching tackles for Jordan Olleik, 3 tackles from Andrew Clark and 2 tackles each from Brendan Singleton, Tyler Moffat, Grant Moser and Sean Emond.

Mosquito

The Kanata Mosquitos kicked off the 2006 season with a convincing 19 to 6 win over the Bel-Air Lions Saturday. The O line of Graham Bird, Joey Belanger, Jake Saunders, Zach Whitcroft, Tony Le, John Allarie, and Andres Rios provided great pass protection and drive resulting in 3 touchdowns, 1 in the air and 2 on the ground. QB Nick Krzaniak passed for over 100 yards including a 30 yard td pass to James Wilson. Jason Lachance was the leading pass receiver including one near the goal line to set Nick Krzaniak up for a TD.  John Ladurantaye ran for 72 tough yards up the middle was also credited with a touch down. Also contributing with big blocks, hits and yardage were Sebastian Rios, Cameron MacMillan, Nick Porter, Patrick Guilbeault, and Eric Thomson.

Despite early game jitters and giving up a touch down on the first play, the defence rallied and showed great spirit in shutting down the Lions offense. The hit parade was lead by Mitch Graham with 8 tackles followed by Vince Galea, Harrison de Costa, and Evan Swire with 7, 6, and 5 tackles respectively. Swire added 2 sacks and Galea 1. Curtis Wagner. Zack Palmer, Jordon Gorgichuk, Brett Champagne, Eric Oneschuk, Ben Tremblay, Emil Aite, Zach Andruchow, and Devon McIntyre assisted with timely tackles and great pass coverage. McIntyre also had a fumble recovery.

PeeWee

The PeeWee team was not as fortunate losing 51-6 to the much stronger Lions.  The only offense generated came late in the game on a hand off to Dallon Kuprowski to score the Knights only touchdown.

Bantam

The defending Bantam City champions continued their winning streak with a decisive victory again the Bel-Air Lions winning 30-0. The offense lead by QB Ryan Ireland attacked the Lions defence passing for a total of 143 yards. Receiving touchdowns were scored by Jordan Singbeil and Shane Hills. The Knights running game steamrolled the Lions with Taylor Kuprowski rushing for 125 yards and a touchdown. Eric Champagne contributed a second rushing touchdown with a powerful 1 yard run.

The Knights “Hoggies” opened holes all day giving the running backs room to roam and allowed QB Ryan Ireland plenty of time to throw. Special mention goes to Case de Kemp for throwing some incredible downfield blocks.

The Knights defence was in top form shutting down the Lions all afternoon. Brad Gorgichuk pounded the Lions with 12 tackles and a sack while Kyle MacLellan & Joey Timpson recorded 9 & 8 tackles respectively. Shane Sabourin recovered a fumble allowing the Knights offense to continue their charge.

Midget

It was a battle of two very talented defensive teams that saw the Knights Midgets win 14-7 to the Bel Air Norseman. The Norseman only managed to score as a result of a miscue on special teams. Mark Packard in his debut at quarterback was outstanding with 166 yards in the air including two spectacular touchdown passes to Marcus Lovell. Justin Patenaude led the team in rushing with 70 yards on 16 carries including two points in converts.

The Knights defence completely shut down the Norseman both on the ground and in the air. Shane Nolan, James Campbell, Nathan Quigley and Moe Njau each recorded an interception.  Quigley and Campbell along with Karim Hosny and Matthew Scott led the team in tackles.

Next Action

The Knights teams will play again on Labour Day Monday with the Midgets taking on the Colts at KRC field at 7:30 p.m. and the other squads playing in West Carleton beginning at 9:30 a.m.
