The Kanata Knights
Mosquito squad advanced to the Sullivan Cup final with
a victory over the Gatineau Vikings this past weekend.
The remaining Knights teams did not fare as well as
all they all lost their semi-final match-ups to end
their seasons.
Mosquito
Another big win for the Kanata Knights Mosquito team!
On Wednesday, October 25, they played a mini-game to
determine in which Division they would play losing in
overtime to the Orleans Bengals. They then rose
to the challenge of the Sullivan Cup semi-finals Sunday,
October 29 at the Sportsplex in Nepean by defeating
the Gatineau Vikings 12 – 0. The Knights now advance
to the Sullivan Cup Championship this week.
The offence adjusted its game for wind conditions and
focused on their running game. They moved the
ball very well, resulting in several first downs.
Jason Lachance, Mike Langlois, Jake Saunders, Cameron
MacMillan, Graham Bird, James Wilson, Nick Porter, Tony
Le, Andres Rios, Patrick Guilbeault, John Allaire, Eric
Thompson, and Zachary Whitcroft, as well as the rest
of the offense contributed to the team's success, and
made the big pushes when needed! John Ladurantaye
took full advantage running for 78 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Seb Mordak added another 42 yards, Cassy Aite another
26, Nick Krzaniak 20 yards, and Joey Bélanger, in a
new role this week, 8 yards up the middle, for first
downs.
The defense came to play once again! They never
gave the Vikings a chance to score, and delivered great
field position for the offence. Mitch Graham again led
the defense with 10 tackles and a fumble recovery despite
playing with a lower body injury. Mike Zadra and
Evan Swire were close behind him with 9 tackles each.
Mike added a big sack, and Evan made an unexpected 11
yard punt return. Devin McIntyre added another
6 tackles. Spencer Cates and Harry de Costa had
4 tackles each. Spencer also picked up a fumble
recovery. Chase Renaud, Jordan Gorgichuk and David
Nguyen all had 3 tackles too. Ben Tremblay, Eric
Oneschuk, Brett Champagne, Sebastian Rios, Emil Aite,
Zach Palmer, and Vince Galea all made some big tackles.
Bantam
If you had a chance to list elements that constitute
a great football game, it'd be a sure bet that many
would describe the Bantam semi-final tilt between the
top ranked North Gloucester Giants and the defending
champion Kanata Knights.
It looked as though this playoff encounter would be
an overtime repeat, of their thrilling regular season
match-up but this time the Giants were the ones to boot
for a game winning single in the dying seconds of regulation
time to de-throne the valiant Knights 22-21.
With several key players out, injured or hurting it
was a true testament to their team spirit that the Knights
fought harder than they had all season and played an
outstanding game. Ryan Ireland was able to connect
on touchdown passes to Ryan Graham, Kyle Lafond and
Paul Bekolay with Godwin Addai converting the majors,
although 21 points would not be quite enough on this
day. The Defense stood taller than their Giant
counterparts throughout the match and deserved a better
fate. A little razzle dazzle and some timely defense
were all North Gloucester needed to steal the victory.
Tyke
On a cold and wet Saturday morning the Kanata Knights
came out to play with their hearts set on winning the
semi finals unfortunately they were defeated by the
Canterbury Mustangs in a close game with the final score
12-8.
The outstanding QB, Sam Kronick, powered the offence
with 1 TD and blasted over 70 rushing yards. Levi Neeson,
Scott Taylor and Mahlon Head were key players to the
offense. The offensive line incurred many penalties
which stifled scoring potential.
The defense made many bone crushing tackles and sacks
to hold the Mustangs at 12 points. Logan McKenna,
a 3rd year veteran, continued to show team leadership
and dominated on the field delivering punishing tackle
after tackle. Robbie Clement known to hi teammates as
“speedy Gonzalez” racked up 7 crushing tackles. Kyle
King the “sackenator” and Devin Saumur each had in 6
tackles. Evan Yourth contributed with a 2 point conversion
kick and 5 head rattling tackles. Carter Poulin had
an incredible interception and numerous tackles.
The Kanata Knights Midget and Pee Wee seasons were also
cut short with the Midgets losing 10 – 0 to the Bel
Air Norsemen while the Pee Wees lost 7 – 0 to the East
Ottawa Generals 7 – 0.
